"Game, Set, Life" by Albert Stark
A new book release celebrating NJTL of Trenton's history & impact
In 1969, tennis great Arthur Ashe, collaborating with others, founded the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network. It aims to use tennis as a tool to teach young people how to be successful leaders, collaborative teammates, and productive citizens. In "Game, Set, Life," author Albert Stark draws on his experiences as a national-level tennis player and then coach, mentor, and board member of NJTL of Trenton (New Jersey) to share personal stories from some of those most empowered by the organization.
Each story in this history is a testament to how dedication can inspire dreams and unlock potential for every individual. Through the combined efforts of coaches, players, mentors, and volunteers, NJTL of Trenton has built a powerful community that makes a significant impact every day. Perfect for readers interested in sports, education, social justice, education, and the intersection of those, "Game, Set, Life" offers an example of an incredibly successful community effort: For the past fourteen years, every graduate from the NJTLT program has been admitted to a college or technical school, many with scholarships and grants. If you want to be both inspired and instructed about how to be a gift to the community, read this book.
100% of the proceeds from your purchase will go directly to NJTLT'S Scholarship Fund, that sponsors an Ashe student entering college or a trade school. Receive a personally autographed copy when you purchase "Game Set Life" by Albert Stark through NJTLT.

Book Excerpt

“For me, NJTLT was a springboard. I needed a role model.” Michelle Glebama, a high school
student from a West African immigrant family, found her path tosuccess through NJTLT. After
joining the program, she was handed a racquet by Executive Director Dan Faber, which marked
the turning point in her tennis journey. "That was the first time I felt like I truly belonged in the
sport," she shared. With guidance from NJTLT’s coaches, including Glendon Nicolas, Michelle
rose to become Trenton High’s #2 player and earned a scholarship to Drew University, where
she played #1 singles and doubles. "I loved helping my teammates, just like my NJTLT coaches
had helped me," she said.
After earning a degree and an MFA, Michelle returned to NJTLT as Program Director (2013-2016), mentoring others and guiding them toward college success. “It wasn’t just about tennis—it was about preparing for life.” Now, having moved on to lead organizations dedicated to empowering young girls through sports, Michelle continues her mission to create opportunities and inspire the next generation. "NJTLT gave me more than a sport—it gave me a future," she reflects, now passing that gift on to others.

His most recent book, "The Statement," is a fictional story about a young boy who was manipulated by the police to give a false statement that sent a black activist to Death Row and the journey the boy took to right his wrong.
At 85 years of age, he is still working to improve his backhand.
