Outreach and Recreation Programs
NJTL of Trenton is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do at our Non-Profit Organization is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of our society’s biggest challenges. We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities.
Each summer NJTLT offers its annual Summer Camp at both Cadwalader Park and Villa Park. During the school year, NJTLT offers after-school programming (Fall & Spring), collaborating with partners from the City of Trenton Parks & Recreation Department, the Trenton Public and Charter Schools, and other non-profit partners offering youth tennis and life skills programs focusing on social-emotional learning.
School Programs
The NJTL of Trenton provides 18-22 weeks of PE and after-school tennis instruction in school gymnasiums and community centers using USTA’s Net Generation format and the ACE Curriculum. The program runs in partnership with the Trenton Public Schools, the City of Trenton, Ewing Public Schools, Hamilton Public Schools and other after-school providers. The program concludes with the “Trenton Short Court Championships” tournament at Cadwalader Park in May. All-star teams are formed from each school, for this one-day tournament that includes both Elementary and Middle School divisions.
Summer Camp
Established in 1975, the NJTLT’s summer program initially began at one site with 30 youngsters. It now operates at numerous sites with over 500 children. The program runs for six weeks (four days per week) during the months of June, July and August – ending with the End of the Summer Picnic extravaganza. The summer program emphasizes character development and tennis instruction. It provides USTA Net Generation tennis for younger players and high performance training for beginners, intermediate to advanced levels.
Additional opportunities are offered throughout the summer:
-
Field trips
-
Regional Rallies
-
Junior Team Tennis
-
US Open Arthur Ashe Kids Day trip
-
World Team Tennis matches, etc.

Many city and local organizations and camps collaborate and utilize the program to incorporate tennis instruction into their programming allowing NJTLT to reach a greater number of students.
